AB Moraknivar - HALLIN & Co - 1930 to 1962

Online resources for AB Moraknivar Hallin & Co. are scarce.

(Hållams) Jannes (Andersson) Hallin was born on November 14, 1875, and passed away in 1942.

Jannes Hallin started selling knives around Färnäs in the late 1800s, working with Sol-Nils Olsson. More info https://oldmora.blogspot.com/2020/05/sol-nils-olsson.html

Jannes was known as Knussel, which translates to hustler, while Sol-Nils was known as Black, which means broke or impoverished man).

In 1930, Hållams-Johannes Andersson and Rudolf Berling founded J.HALLIN in Färnäs, east of Mora. Throughout the 1930s, the business was known as HALLIN & Co., and finally AB MORAKNIVAR until its demise.

Eventually, most likely following his father's passing, Johannes Hallin (born 1909-11-05) assumed control of the business.

From the 1957 catalog
"To the esteemed customer service, we hereby submit a catalog of our manufacturing Mora knives. Our experience in the steel of different treatment methods guarantees a brand that satisfies all claims of good quality and our customers' recognition proves that we managed to get our brand known and recognized.
Our efforts will continue to be through good and solid brands to maintain esteemed customers' confidence.

AB MORAKNIVAR"

The Carl Andersson episode
The widow of Erik Andersson and his son sold their shares from the company Carl Andersson AB  to Arthur Andersson, who sold them to Jannes Hallin in the late 1950s or early 1960s.
More info about Carl Andersson AB https://oldmora.blogspot.com/2019/11/carl-andersson-ca-mora-1890-1961.html

In 1961, one of the siblings approached Einar Eriksson of KJE https://oldmora.blogspot.com/2020/12/kjeriksson.html. would not be interested in purchasing his stock. There was eventually a public auction, and Hallin was unable to match KJ's bid.

Following the auction, there was an immediate takeover/entry, and Einar made certain that the locks were changed. Einar also believed that the workshop should be guarded at night for the first time, and Nils Legranäs, who married KJ's daughter Lilly, was assigned as the first night watchman. A car was driving at three o'clock in the evening. Jannes Hallin came in and tried to get in, but he couldn't because the locks had already been changed. Einar appeared to have a sense of what to expect following the takeover. KJ Eriksson fully integrated AB-Carl Andersson.

The FM Mattsson episode
FM Mattsson https://oldmora.blogspot.com/2020/01/fm-mattsson-1917-1962.html decided to close the knife production in late 1961 and reached an agreement with AB Moraknivar, but the agreement was never completed because AB Moraknivar went bankrupt. KJE eventually purchases FMM knife production. More information on these operations can be found in the FM Mattsson article.

FMM's letter to customers upon transfer to AB Moraknivar:
"In order to be able to wholeheartedly support our specialty manufacturing of sanitary fittings, we have decided to transfer our knife production to AB. Mora knives Färnas.

We thank honored customers for the trust shown

Cody Ludin

Photo credit Christopher Marchetti I wanted to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for the incredible opportunity Cody afforded me earlier this year. His willingness to spend time with me and record a video interview was truly a remarkable experience that I will cherish forever. The video in links bellow in the article.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvgZJciZBG4 A few months ago, I wrote a couple of articles about Mors Koshanki, who I believe introduced and popularized the Mora knife in the bushcraft, survival, and outdoor living skills scene, especially in North America. Can be found here  https://oldmora.blogspot.com/2021/12/Morskochanski.html and and  https://morakniv.se/en/morakniv-stories-en/in-memory-of-mors-kochanski-1940-2019/ However, Cody Lundin is another person who brought the Morakniv to the spotlight. Most people know Cody from his appearances on survival shows on TV, such as "Dual Survival" and "The Today Show". However, it was on "D...

Frost - 1891 - 2005

Erik Frost – Data unknown, my guess 1900-1920  Frost-Erik Ersson (or Frost Erik Eriksson)  was born in 1865-07-29 in the village of Östnor in a family of farmers. https://www.morahembygd.se/wp-content/stigsson/pee9624ac.html  In his childhood, he suffered child paralysis, his entire upper body and arms were attacked.  In 1887-06-07, Frost emigrated to the USA, like many others from his generation, to work as a lumberjack where we became known as Erik Frost.  In 1890,  Frost returned home and later in the year married Smids Anna Andersdotter (seven months before the first child Kristina was born) https://www.morahembygd.se/wp-content/stigsson/p786244cf.html . In total, they will have 8 children.  1891 also mark the year when he opened the sled and carriages factory called Erik Frost. See here a video of examples of similar style carriages https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qvfw-QxuP50   Mentioned in the 120 Morakniv book “. According to Karl E...
