Skidkniv N. 1102 and N.1114

Nr 1102 (smaller) and N1114

Invented by BÖHLMABK & Co https://oldmora.blogspot.com/2021/05/BohlmarkCo.html, who at the time was the general agent for Frosts Knivfabrik https://oldmora.blogspot.com/2021/11/Frost.html, from the early days until the 1960s. The main purpose of this knife was to adjust the bindings used in those days and to scrape snow and ice from the skies. It also had a sharp spine.

In Morakniv blog article "Skis, poles, Morakniv!" https://morakniv.se/en/morakniv-stories-en/skis-poles-morakniv/  Thomas Eriksson wrote "However, why was the knife so important? Well, apart from the obvious when you would cut a piece of the food bag you brought with you, it says perhaps most about the substandard ski waxing products of that time. If the weather was trickled with temperature changes, the icing under the skis could be noticeable and the obvious tool to get rid of ice and snow was to scrape the skis clean with the back of the knife."

There were two versions, the N. 1102 with a blade of 102mm and overall size 205mm, and the N. 1114 with a 114mm blade and overall size 225mm. It came with a leather sheath with a skier engraved on the front and metal ornaments. Both models were made out of stainless steel.

Some production batches (not sure at the moment the time frame) have stamped on the blade the patent number SVENSKT PAT N.o 84013 and NORSKT PAT N.o 55835, which correspond to the Swedish and Norwegian patent.

The one with the patent stamp is thicker than the one without the stamp, 25mm vs 22mm.

It appears on the catalogs from the 1930s until the 1960s. My guess is, probably when BÖHLMABK  and Frosts Knivfabrik ended their partnership, BÖHLMABK took the patent with them ???

"Ans. No. 5006/1933. Bone. May 29, 1935.
THE TRADING COMPANY UNDER THE BÖHLMABK & Co. COMPANY, MORA.
Ski knife with cleaning means for removing snow from the track on the underside of a ski.
(Inventor: N. E. Böhlmark.)

Patent publish on JULY 30, 1935

The present invention relates to a ski knife of extremely simple construction. According to the invention, the knife has one or more directly formed from the knife blade, equipped with flat sides, blade-shaped projections, the sides of which are located in the same plane as, respectively. are parallel to, the blade sides and have a rectangular or rounded shape so that the projections are useful as a cleaning means for removing snow and ice from the track existing in the bottom of a ski.
In the accompanying drawing, a ski knife according to the invention is illustrated.
The knife blade 1 is provided with one or more at the inner end of the shaft 2, formed directly from the blade, blade-shaped projections 3, which are equipped with flat sides, located in the same plane as, respectively. parallel to the knife blade sides. These projections are useful as a cleaning means for removing snow and ice from the track located at the bottom of a ski. In the embodiment shown, there are two such projections 3, one of which protrudes from the blade of the blade and the other from the blade of the blade and one of which has a rectangular and the other semi-circular shape, so that the knife is useful for snow removal. and ice from herring grooves with different cross-sectional shapes. Of course, if desired, the knife may be provided with only one of these projections, but use
the tendency becomes greater if both projections are present.
The back of the knife blade is perfectly straight from the projection 3 to the tip, whereby it becomes particularly suitable for scraping snow and ice from the underside of the ski, whereby the projection protrudes from the back, abutting the side of the ski, serves as a control member.
Patent Claims:
l: o) Ski knife, characterized by one or more, directly from the blade, designed with flat sides, blade-shaped projections, the sides of which are located on the same plane as, respectively. are parallel to, the blade sides, and have a rectangular or rounded shape, so that the projections are useful as a cleaning means for removing snow and ice from the track existing in the bottom of a ski.
2: o) Ski knife according to claim 1: o), provided with a protrusion protruding from the back of the knife blade and one projecting from its edge, that one protuberance has a rectangular shape and the other protuberant half-round shape so that the knife is useful for removing snow and ice from ski tracks with different cross-sectional shapes."

Cody Ludin

Photo credit Christopher Marchetti I wanted to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for the incredible opportunity Cody afforded me earlier this year. His willingness to spend time with me and record a video interview was truly a remarkable experience that I will cherish forever. The video in links bellow in the article.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvgZJciZBG4 A few months ago, I wrote a couple of articles about Mors Koshanki, who I believe introduced and popularized the Mora knife in the bushcraft, survival, and outdoor living skills scene, especially in North America. Frost - 1891 - 2005

Erik Frost – Data unknown, my guess 1900-1920  Frost-Erik Ersson (or Frost Erik Eriksson)  was born in 1865-07-29 in the village of Östnor in a family of farmers. https://www.morahembygd.se/wp-content/stigsson/pee9624ac.html  In his childhood, he suffered child paralysis, his entire upper body and arms were attacked.  In 1887-06-07, Frost emigrated to the USA, like many others from his generation, to work as a lumberjack where we became known as Erik Frost.  In 1890,  Frost returned home and later in the year married Smids Anna Andersdotter (seven months before the first child Kristina was born) https://www.morahembygd.se/wp-content/stigsson/p786244cf.html . In total, they will have 8 children.  1891 also mark the year when he opened the sled and carriages factory called Erik Frost.
